The Miller’s Cemetery

In Shelburne, an old settler’s cemetery:

Wally Russell: “Mr. Miller who donated land for the cemetery was the one who with our Grandpa Russell built a church there. Grandpa said his kids weren't going to be raised like heathens and that is why he built the church.
“In his last years, like maybe ten or fifteen, Papa (Homer—A.P.’s youngest son) had been taking care of the graves in the Miller cemetery. Sometimes, he'd ask Alma, his sister, for advice and would collaborate on something or other.
“Anyway, I learned a little of something of the things he had been doing over the years so just kind of began to take over doing the same things. His mother dearly loved pansies so Papa always planted some pansies every year in a planter box there that he made for that purpose. In fact all of the older Russells had a failing for pansies. So you are apt to see pansies on several of their graves.”
